Woman, 2 daughters die by suicide in SE Delhi | Delhi News – The Times of India

New Delhi: A woman and her two daughters allegedly died by suicide in their rented house in southeast Delhi’s Molarband on Wednesday. Police suspect that they were facing financial problems, prompting them to take the extreme step.
The staff at the Badarpur police station received a police control room alert at 4.18pm after a neighbour of the woman complained of a foul smell emanating from the second floor of the building. When a team from the local police station reached the building, it found the three bodies in the one-bedroom house on the second floor of the building. They observed foam around the mouths of the deceased, indicating possible poisoning.
The deceased were identified as a 42-year-old woman and her two daughters, aged around nine and 18 years, said Ravi Kumar Singh, DCP (Southeast). Another police officer revealed that the family had been living on rent there for the past four-five months. Locals informed the police teams that while they had seen the woman and her daughters frequently, they never saw the husband. They had been informed by the woman that her husband, who she claimed worked as a driver in Gurgaon, had died around 25 days ago. The police team is verifying this claim, an officer said.
Police said further inquiries revealed that the woman had lost her job recently and while the younger daughter was going to school, the elder one had stopped attending classes in recent months. Police believed that the probable cause for taking this extreme step was financial distress as proved by the fact that the room rent hadn’t been paid for two months, according to DCP Singh.
A forensic and crime team combed the site for clues on Wednesday. Police are also looking into the possibility of poisoning as the cause of death and are awaiting post-mortem reports for confirmation. They are verifying details related to the husband’s whereabouts, the family’s financial situation and the exact sequence of events leading up to the tragedy. Police teams are also scanning CCTV footage to check the last movement of the family and footage from around the locality.
