Woman Impersonates Doctor to Steal Jewelry from AIIMS Doctors’ Hostel | Delhi News – The Times of India

NEW DELHI: A 43-year-old woman, posing as a doctor, was caught on Thursday at her residence in Ghaziabad for committing theft at the doctors’ hostel in AIIMS Hospital.
Holding a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, she frequently commuted from Ghaziabad to AIIMS in South Delhi. Disguising herself in a doctor’s coat, she roamed the hospital and hostel areas, targeting unlocked rooms to steal valuables. According to the police, her fondness for expensive jewellery drove her to commit these crimes.
The police received a complaint from a doctor regarding the theft of gold jewellery, Rs 20,000, and 700 Malaysian Ringgit from his room in the hostel at AIIMS Hospital. A case was registered, and a team under sub inspector Deepender was formed.
The team collected CCTV footage from 100 cameras inside the AIIMS campus and meticulously analysed it. They gathered vital and key inputs through technical sources, purified these inputs, and extracted even more important information through both manual and technical surveillance.
“From the analysis of CCTV footage, the team managed to identify a woman wearing a doctor’s white coat and roaming inside the hostel gallery,” the police said. The suspect was found trying to open different hostel rooms during odd hours. The suspect was traced throughout the campus, and multiple CCTV footages were checked. She was seen roaming on her scooter.
The team deployed plainclothes officers all over the AIIMS campus to gather more intelligence on the suspicious woman. In furtherance of this, the ownership details of the scooter were obtained from the concerned department. A raid was conducted in Ghaziabad, and the suspect was apprehended.
Police recovered jewellery, including two gold chains, a ring, earrings, a bracelet, Rs 4,500 in cash, 522 Malaysian Ringgit, and the scooter.
Deputy commissioner of police (South) Ankit Chauhan said the woman was fond of wearing costly jewellery and also committed thefts earlier. While roaming the AIIMS campus, she noticed that the doors of the doctor’s hostel rooms were generally left unlocked.
“At that time, she decided to commit theft at the AIIMS Hostel to satisfy her desire for jewellery. To avoid suspicion from security guards or others, she would wear or carry a doctor’s coat. After committing the theft, she fled on her scooter,” he said.
The woman holds a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Science. She worked as a lab assistant in a private hospital.
