New Delhi: A 21-year-old youth and an 18-year-old woman were found hanging from a tree on Sunday in Deer Park of south Delhi’s Safdarjung, suggesting a suspected suicide pact. Police said a 35-year-old security guard saw the bodies while patrolling the park around 6.30am and alerted the cops.
“Our police officers responded to the emergency call and found the deceased hanging from a branch. They had used a single nylon rope,” a senior police officer said. “The crime team was promptly dispatched to the scene to collect evidence, and the bodies were transported to a mortuary for post-mortem.” The youth worked in a pizza shop in Lodhi Colony. The girl resided in south Delhi’s Chattarpur Enclave. The youth left home around 2pm on Saturday, according to a statement by his 24-year-old brother.
The woman was staying with her aunt in Safdarjung Enclave for three days and left at approximately the same time on Saturday, supposedly intending to return to Chattarpur Enclave for work.
“We are treating this as a case of suicide, but inquest proceedings are on to determine the circumstances that led to this,” the senior police officer added.
The youth was wearing a black T-shirt with blue jeans. The woman was in a green dress. Police have not disclosed whether a suicide note was found. They are probing if they were in a relationship. The police are questioning family members and associates as well.
