Govt may not allow schools to mandate specific vendors for uniforms, books | Delhi News – The Times of India

New Delhi: Delhi govt is likely to issue an order preventing schools from mandating parents to purchase uniforms and books from specific vendors, according to sources. A senior official said schools will no longer be allowed to change uniforms arbitrarily or dictate where parents should buy study material.
“Govt will introduce a dedicated email and helpline to report violations. The move aims to curb unfair practices and ease financial pressure on families,” he said, adding, “We received several complaints of schools making minor changes in uniforms and asking parents to purchase them.”
Schools will be required to display the addresses and contact details of at least five shops, from where parents can buy books and uniforms as per convenience, the official said.
“Stringent action will be taken against school administrations or vendors if this is not followed. It has been observed that orders are issued for a particular atlas, which is priced high. These practices need to be controlled,” he said.
He said the purpose of education should be to nurture the future of the nation, not to mint money. “Schools should understand they are under govt’s strict supervision, and it will not allow arbitrary charges for books and uniforms,” he added.
