
New Delhi: A 30-year-old man was murdered after an argument broke out over a pinch of salt in south east Delhi’s Amar Colony. A man was cooking when his fellow worker asked him to add salt carefully to the vegetables.The person preparing the food took offence, feeling his cooking skills were being questioned. The situation quickly escalated, and he attacked his co-worker with glass pieces, striking him repeatedly.The deceased was identified as Rakesh, a resident of Unnao, UP, and worked as a labourer.According to Delhi Police, a PCR call regarding a quarrel was received at around 9.35 pm on Wednesday. A team from the local police station rushed to the scene. “Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of a man and found another individual — later identified as the alleged assailant — lying unconscious nearby with visible injuries,” police said.The caller, identified as Tejilal, and another eyewitness, Ramjeevan, were present at the site. Both informed police that the victim and accused, Lalji, were from the same village and worked as labourers at the under-construction building. The altercation reportedly began while the two were cooking food, escalating into violence over salt.In a fit of rage, Lalji allegedly attacked the victim using broken glass pieces, causing fatal injuries. Lalji also sustained wounds to his stomach and thigh during the incident. He was immediately shifted to AIIMS, where he underwent surgery. His condition is reported to be stable, and he remains under medical supervision.This was not the first time that a murder occurred over a petty reason. Last month, a man was murdered in southeast Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur after he refused to give someone a bidi. Similarly, in Feb, a 60-year-old man was stabbed to death following an argument over giving way to three boys in North Delhi’s Sadar Bazar.
