RRTS: Trial runs between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan to begin soon | Delhi News – The Times of India

New Delhi: The overhead equipment between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan RRTS stations is all set to power train operations. Trial runs on the stretch are expected to begin soon, said officials.
Currently, Namo Bharat trains are running between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South, covering 55 km and 11 stations along the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor.
“This newly charged section from New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan spans around 4 km and will receive power from the Sarai Kale Khan receiving substation in the near future. The substation will receive 66 kV electricity and will supply 25 kV for train operations and 33 kV for powering stations along the corridor,” explained an official of National Capital Region Transport Corporation, which is executing the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor.
To enable this, NCRTC has signed an agreement with Delhi Transco Limited and the gas turbine power station. At present, electricity in this section is being supplied by the Ghaziabad receiving substation, added the official.
“The overhead wires are specially designed to support the high-speed operations of Namo Bharat trains, up to its design speed of 180 kmph. The overhead equipment on this corridor is engineered to handle both high speeds and frequent services efficiently,” said the official.
Namo Bharat trains are already operating between Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar in the 14 km-long Delhi section.
Sarai Kale Khan is one of the largest and most important stations on the entire corridor. It will serve as the central hub for train operations across all three priority corridors of Phase I. The station is equipped with four tracks and six platforms—the highest among all stations.
To ensure smooth passenger movement, the station includes five entry and exit gates, multiple staircases, 14 lifts, and 18 escalators. Spanning 215 metres in length, 50 metres in width, and 15 metres in height, its spacious layout was designed for effective crowd management.
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor originates at Sarai Kale Khan in New Delhi and terminates at Modipuram in Meerut.
