New Delhi: Days after a four-storey building collapsed in northeast Delhi’s Mustafabad, claiming 11 lives, another building was found tilting a few kilometres away in Dayalpur on Wednesday. This triggered panic among the residents, who were evacuated within a few hours.
Police said that they received a call on Wednesday morning about a tilted building on 33 Futa Road. The building, constructed on a 25-square-yard plot, was deemed unsafe. Three families were residing on its different floors, and the authorities quickly evacuated all the residents to ensure their safety.
In the aftermath of this incident, residents of two buildings nearby also expressed similar safety concerns. Police swung into action and proceeded to evacuate the residents of these buildings as well as a precautionary measure. “Evacuations were necessary to avoid any harm or casualties in case the situation worsened. A total of four families were evacuated from these two buildings,” the officer said.
Police have, meanwhile, alerted the civic body to the risks posed by potentially unstable buildings. “People must contact the authorities concerned if they feel that their buildings are dangerous. It will be unsafe to stay inside such buildings,” the officer added.
