WhatsApp a/c of minister’s wife hacked | Delhi News – Times of India

New Delhi: Delhi Police registered a case and launched an investigation after the WhatsApp account of a Union minister’s wife was hacked, leading to fraudulent money demands from her contacts.According to a formal complaint submitted to the cyber police station in New Delhi by a senior official of a Union ministry, the minister’s wife, unaware of the deception, shared a one-time password with someone posing as a known contact on May 1. The ‘contact’ claimed to have mistakenly sent the OTP. Armed with OTP, the hacker gained control of her WhatsApp account and several of her contacts, including senior bureaucrats and diplomats, who receivedfraudulent messagesfrom her number, requesting them to transfer Rs 20,000 to two UPI accounts.According to the complaint, some of her genuine contacts later reported that their WhatsApp accounts were also compromised, raising concerns about a broader, coordinated cyberattack targeting high-level bureaucrats. The compromised account was promptly disabled and the two-factor authentication was enabled to prevent further unauthorised access. However, another hacking attempt was reported on May 3.
